What to know about the Iran war:
- U.S. Central Command said Tuesday night that it thwarted an "attempted surprise attack" by Iran's Revolutionary Guard, which it said launched multiple ballistic missiles at U.S. forces in the Middle East. CENTCOM said all the missiles were "successfully intercepted."
- U.S. and Saudi Arabian military forces conducted joint strikes Tuesday targeting what U.S. Central Command called "Iran-aligned terrorists" operating in Iraq. The U.S. said the strikes were in retaliation for more than 30 aerial drone attacks that were conducted over the past 72 hours at the direction of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.
- Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met President Trump at the White House Tuesday for the first time since the U.S. and Israel launched their war with Iran. Israel has not taken part in the latest round of hostilities between the U.S. and Iran, which flared earlier this month but has been paused amid diplomacy aimed at a deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
