Supermassive Games has announced a third round of layoffs in three years, potentially impacting up to 75 positions.

In a statement, the developer said the decision was a "necessary step to help ensure the sustainability of the company."

"We know this will be an incredibly difficult time for everyone, and our priority throughout the process will be to provide support to all those impacted."

Last July, the developer cut 36 roles as it postponed its horror title Directive 8020 from October 2025 to May 2026.

At the time, it said the industry "remains a challenging and ever-evolving environment" and that it had to "adapt [its] team structure to better align with these changes."

Directive 8020 received mixed reviews and, according to Video Game Insight, sold approximately 447,000 units across Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox.

In February 2024, about 90 employees were affected by layoffs as Supermassive Games entered a period of consultation.

Again, the studio referred to the industry "facing significant challenges, and unfortunately, we are not immune to this."

"We're committed to focusing our efforts on our core strengths and upcoming titles to ensure the continued sustainability of the company."
